I would greatly appreciate anyone who may be intelligent enough to help solve this pain in the ass problem that has recently come about.
I was on vacation and returned and booted up my computer to discover "rundll32 has caused an error to kernel32.rundll32 will now close". I seem to be completly unable to use my mouse and computer for that matter to try to reinstall my Operating Software which is Windows ME.
Any suggestions would be extremly appreciated!

Get a similar error message stating 'rundll32 has caused an error in kerner32.dll. Rundll32 will now close. If you experience any further problems try restarting your computer'
No further reference is made to any stacks.

I am currently having the same problem; it is extremely aggravating. I have fixed the broken video driver and mouse by removing them in system devices, rebooting, and reinstalling when the computer recognizes them ..but i'm still getting the rundll32 crash every time I reboot. As a result it won't let me run many other dlls, preventing me from doing things such as playing games. Anyone know how to fix this?

I just started getting the same thing last night. Driving me crazy. I'm here looking for a solution. Microsoft help sucks. Their answer is "you must have had Compuserve installed" I have never had Compuserve installed. If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

I got the same message after the netdotcom dll has been automatically updated.
Taking this line out of the registry solved the problem and it appeared again after that I had introduced this line back. I have found that the netdotcom was started during booting from the Run list in the Registry. The path indicated was not correct anymore. It should be Rundll32.exe c:\Program Files\netdotcom\netdotcom4_50.dll ..
For any reason, the path names were truncated to 8 characters and at least wrong with netdot~2 instead of netdotcom4_50.
After correction, the problem disapeared.
I hope this can help others as well.

I'm getting this error message also. I've downloaded and installed Ad-Aware and have taken out unecessary items from msconfig, etc.
I'm still able to play games but it's jacking with my Outlook Express. Am on DSL. I've researced and read so much, have become tired of it. Please post or email if you've found a solution. Thanks!!

Still no solution from me. :(
I've tried almost everything too, I got a program to clean up my registry, did a clean boot etc. I have ad aware and run that often. Still no luck. I now also get a blue Windows error screen ocassionally.
I use Kazaa Lite also, maybe it is related.

Same error. I re-installed WINME (on top of
WINME). No luck. I ran MSConfig and disabled
startup group. This did not help either.
On my machine its definitely related to
IE. I only seem to get it when going to the WEB. I'll take any advice. Thanks

I was having problems opening Iexplorer it would pop up everytime. if any of you are having this problem empty your temp files and cookie files. defrag and reboot. worked for me and worth a try if you spent hours searching like i did.

HI!
I had a rundll32 ERR msg problem when using IE.
Had a problem with IE 5.01.
Each website I went to caused a RUNDLL32 ERROR Msg.
I used Ad-aWare (as recommended on your website) to sweep ads from my system - no effect. It only happened with IE, not Netscape.
I got suspicious of a "Huntbar" recently installed on my IE (never used).
So I looked for and found this website:

I followed their instructios and my ERR msgs disappeared for good.
Hope this helps someone else.

I am getting this error on bootup. I also am unable to upgrade IE from 5.5 to 6, and I think it may be related. I get errors that IE6 could not be installed. I will try this huntbar thing.

I was getting this message also, came across this site looking for answers. I had a look at microsofts knowledge base and found this. I also had graphic driver problems, mouse driver problems, and audio problems. Anyway in one of the knowledge base articles (which I didnt think was particularly relevant to my situation) It said to enter this line in the system.ini file under the [boot] section.
eg [boot]
drivers=mmsystem.dll.
Thats all I did, and I rebooted, audio came back, (I had already fixed the mouse and graphics drivers manually - reinstalled them),
but the damn "rundll32 has caused and error etc etc message has gone.
Fixed !! without reformatting and without reinstalling windows me. Not sure if this will help anyone, but it worked for me.

This problem is caused by Kazaa. I reformatted my hardrive, with the restore disc that I got with my computer and it took care of the problem.
But I had to reload all the other programs that
I had to save to other discs.

try to uninstall the mic then reinstall. I mean the sound card which controls mic. Also you may want to try some of the fixes above if you are getting the message this site is all about.

I was having the rundll32 problem also. I had downloaded kazaa. I love the site but frustrating when comes to all the extras loaded. I went to msconfig. Luckily I keep track with everything loaded in msconfig. I unchecked everything that kazaa loaded in my system. I used spybot and slowly got rid of things kazaa didnt depend on. Then rebooted, well while using kazaa I got the rundll32 message again. Shutdown kazaa restarted the program then hit control alt delete. There was a program I didnt recognize, asm, so I ended the task and that solved my problem with rundll32. Also too, when you use spybot there may be a program that kazaa depends on. Another warning I used spybot deleted a program or file. Then I lost my video card driver. All that because I really like kazaa. I think I am giong to find another site even if I do have to pay. Atleast I want get so many head aches...I hope any of this helps with the rundll32 problem

Well, I think I have the same problem too...Everytime I bootup the computer, it displays an error message just like it...The screen resolution changes, and the background is just plain grey...after a few seconds, the error message appears, I click close, but then te computer freezes, nad I hve to turn my computer off and on, but the problem is still here..I was only able to postthis, because before the error message showed up, I just kept pressinf 'Ctrl+Alt+Delete' and ending the task of 'Rundll'among oter progs that were not responding...

just got off the phone with my computer dr. he talked me through it. shut doown by whatever means neccesary. restart go to settings, add/remove. delete anything you don't recognize. go to internet explorer, select and click remove. another window pops open giving you other options than remove. select repair. after completed close window.
i just rebooted explorer and everything seems ok. i never could have gotten close to making this post without this procedure. he thinks it's a virus. i think he's a genius. good luck..Happy Trails and God Bless..Chris

Just as an F.Y.I. had the same problem as everyone else and tried DSM's fix:
"It said to enter this line in the system.ini file under the [boot] section.
[boot]
drivers=mmsystem.dll."
It worked.. give it a try.
