MSIEXEC.EXE file, etc.
My machine crashed recently, and when I try to install Office 2000 in my Win 98, I get this error message: "The MSIEXEC.EXE is linked to missing export MSI.DLL:222." Then, when I click OK to that, I get: "Cannot launch C:\Windows\System\msiexec.exe. A device attached to the system is not functioning." I have both MSIESEC.EXE and MSI.DLL in my C:\Windows\System directory. Also, I don't know what device this message is referring to. I reinstalled my printer and scanner, and they both work. Any help would be most welcome. Please remember: I am really a newbie!! Thanks so much. George

|
Jonathan
07/05/03

Dan, click on "my computer" or "windows explorer" then click "c:\" and you windows directory (which will have win in the name)then enter the system folder, click "tools" and "folder options" click "view" and uncheck "hide extensions for known file types" click "ok" then use the scroll bar to locate msiexec.exe (clicking "name" will alphabatize them), right-click msiexec.exe and left click rename, then you can edit it like normal text
good luck...

Command Prompt is a blinking line that you can type a command next to. (Dos) You can locate command prompt, by rebooting your computer, and taping the f8 key repeatedly to get your list of options. You will see command prompt only in the list. When you highlight it with your arrow keys, and press enter, it will bring you to this blinking prompt. Donna

The MSIEXEC.EXE file linked to missing export MSI.DLL:222
Notes on the error message "The MSIEXEC.EXE file linked to missing export MSI.DLL:222" This message is a clue that the Windows Installer service on the machine has become corrupted in some way. There is either a missing file, or the existence of incompatible versions of files. In order to fix this problem:
Download the latest version of the Microsoft Installer:
For Win9x/ME, download http://download.microsoft.com/download/WindowsInstaller
/Install/2.0/W9XMe/EN-US/InstMsiA.exe
For WinNT/2K, download http://download.microsoft.com/download/WindowsInstaller
/Install/2.0/NT45/EN-US/InstMsiW.exe
Run the downloaded installation file and follow the directions.

MSIEXEC16.EXE file
Hi guys,
Im not exactly a newb but my msiexec16.exe file on Windows ME was deleted by Mcafee after it found Optix Pro on my computer. I try running instmsiA.exe to reinstall MSI but it says it cannot locate syskrnl.exe from the name i would guess it is the System Kernel also i know it was deleted by Mcafee too.
Can someone help me find this file ?
Thanx.
Please reply by email if not a hassle..

This problem does not seem so easily solved. I have followed the delete and reinstall procedure exactly. What happened then was that Windows (ME) gave startup errors whenever I rebooted and the system checkpoint still did not work. The only way to get rid of the startup errors was to use the install file that sat in the Norton Antivirus directory which is not the latest one. Does anyone have anything further to add that will help, please ?
