There is file in your c:\windows directory called telephon.ini Do yourself a favor and grab a backup copy of this file onto disk or at least into a subdirectory/folder on your computer. Why? This file has been known to suddenly and without warning become corrupt. When that occurs you will receive some very specific error messages. The only way to fix it at this point is to reload a working telephon.ini file. What prompted this warning? I just spent 7 hours in a living hell. Something went wrong with my internet connection such that every time I clicked on an internet link I got the following. "Rundll32. This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shutdown. Rundll32 caused an invalid page fault in module TAPI.DLL at 0014:00007638" After many hours of reinstalling this and upgrading that I found a tiny little message in the corner of the internet suggesting that I look at my telephon.ini file. Well that was the problem. My telephon.ini file was corrupt -- messedup and too big. So here is what I suggest. Make a copy of your existing telephon.ini file and put it on a rescue disk (one of several.) This might come in handy if you ever get a 0014:00007638 error. I suspect that there is a new program floating around that might be causing an increase in corruption of the telephon.ini file.
